      Liverpool expansion gets closer

The final two houses blocking the redevelopment of Anfield were finally demolished to make way for the new main stand at Anfield.

The £260m development of the area is being done with the aid of Liverpool City council, and has caused controversy from day one, it reached a point where the council were having to consider compulsory purchases on some properties to be able to start the project.
The expansion will increase the capacity of Anfield to 58000, and some residents have queried the motives behind such small increase when the benefit to the local community hasn't been fully explained or revealed.
Plans are said to contain aims to refurbish or build new homes in the area, some residents are angered that the only real beneficiary to the demolition and redevelopment are the club, who have taken the cheaper option and not moved to Stanley Park, to allow Anfield to be developed for more community based project including new housing and retail outlets.
Everton FC have also expressed their thoughts that the council seem to be going all out to help Liverpool FC, but at the same time are blocking plans for them to move from Goodison Park, despite 3 suitable sites being found.
